Allergic Reactions in Pets
Florida is host to many plants and insects that cause allergic reactions in your pets. Sometimes, a painful but routine bee sting can turn into a life-threatening allergic reaction. Routine vaccines may also cause reactions.
Typical signs of an allergic reaction are skin redness and itching. Other signs include swelling of the muzzle and area around the eyes, as well as wheals or hives. If your pet shows these signs and vomits as well, he could be experiencing life-threatening anaphylaxis, or shock. Go to your emergency veterinarian immediately.
